Newsletter 2018

Welcome to the first newsletter of 2018. The Friends group has already accomplished a lot so far this year: we have had several well-attended litter picks, have planted hedging and bog plants and have just about raised the money we need for a natural toddlers’ play area.

Forthcoming events:

Litter Picks – Usually first Sunday of the month; meet at 11 a.m. at the car park by the playground. One hour. Bring gloves, we have litter pickers and bin bags. Next dates – 6th May and 3rd June. Dog walkers can you please make sure you put your poo bags in a bin as we find a lot scattered about when we do the litter picks. Could we have a dog walkers’ army of litter pickers, if each person picked up just 1 piece of litter each walk, it would help enormously!

Perennial Plant Sale – in the park, Saturday 5th May 10.30 – 12

AGM – Tuesday 24th April, 6.30 p.m. in the sports centre café area.

We were lucky to be given some little hedging bushes by the Woodland Trust and members of the committee have put them in in gaps along the hedge line along the sports centre car park.

We hope to continue planting wild flowers in quieter areas of the park and bog plants in the many boggy, un-drained areas in the grass.

If you have any plants, trees or shrubs you would like to donate, please get in touch with a committee member who will arrange collection.

Fly Tipping:

Unfortunately, there are some regular fly tippers and we work hard to get this removed by the council. If you see anyone dumping rubbish, please report it on the city council phone number or website.
