Supporting Your Local Park

The Friends of Garston Park group began in 2009. When we began this group, we set out our aims and objectives. As of 2020, we can proudly say that we have been consistently able to…

* Contribute to the maintenance of the park and make improvements based on the wishes of the group members and landowners.
* Protect the park for users and residents.
* Involve residents, users and workers in the improvements and changes within the park.

The park is well used by lots of individuals from all walks of life. There is something for everyone here, the swing park is very popular with families also the new wooden play equipment, the large field is popular with sports teams and dog walkers. People come here to use the exercise equipment and use the park as a place to run.

People also come to sit and relax or have a picnic with friends and family, to take some time out from their busy lives. We know that the park is important to the community and is a valuable resource for people from the area and further afield. As a group, we want to help to keep the park in the best condition possible and make improvements that will benefit the community where we can.

We organise litter picks, bulb and flower planting, maintenance of the planters, flowerbeds and the wildflowers throughout the park, we hold plant sales and we also play an active role in the Summer Fun Day that takes place on the park every year. We’re friendly, open and approachable and we welcome help, support and suggestions from everyone. Please feel free to get in touch today.

Despite all of the progress we have made in the years we have been active, we are still a relatively small number of volunteers. Imagine how much more progress we could make with more members! That’s where you can help. How would you feel, if we could offer you a place within our group to help implement great improvements to Garston Park? Would you like to gain the fulfilment of being part of a group making many positive changes to the local area and community? Do you have a bit of spare time that could be shared with the local community? Did you answer ‘Yes’ to any of these questions? Then don’t hesitate to get involved NOW, we love to welcome new members to the group as we believe everyone can bring something new and exciting.

There are lots of ways you can support us even if you don’t have the time to commit to volunteering regularly. One simple way to make an impact is to follow our social media sites. By liking our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages, more people will be able to see what we are doing. Commenting on and sharing our posts spreads our message even further, meaning more people will be engaging with us and joining our community.

We will use hashtags on Twitter and Instagram such as #FriendsOfGarstonPark, if you take a picture of the park and put it on social media, use the hashtag and tag us in, we love to see pictures of the park and people using it on Twitter. If you have been involved with other parks, we would love to get your opinions and input. Our main aim is to make our park the best it can be for community and that can be achieved with your help, no matter how large or small, it all helps. Feel free to contact us on our contact page at any time.

We’d love to hear from you! Please send us your ideas and suggestions for ways to improve the park, or with ideas for events we could hold. We want to play an active role in the community, and we want you to be a part of it.
